The Silicate Engineering Institute of the State Academy of Sciences has newly developed acid-proof cement based on domestic raw materials.
Highly erosive acid is used in metallurgical, chemical, electric power and other sectors of the national economy.
These sectors have to use containers or tanks made of acid-proof plastics or alloys, but it is not economical to adopt those materials as they cost a lot of money. Meanwhile, the containers or tanks made with ordinary materials reveal such limitations as vulnerability to severe corrosion.
For this reason, research is underway to make easy-to-use acid-proof cement with low cost so that it can be effectively applied for various purposes.
Generally, acid-proof cement is made by mixing filler and cure accelerator in binder, and most of the materials used for making the cure accelerator have so far been imported.
The scientists at the institute identified the optimum amounts of additives of various elements necessary for the cure accelerator and successfully solved the problems arising in its production by using geopolymer abundant in the country.
On the basis of such effort, they developed acid-proof cement and established its production line.
They applied the cement into different units, with the resistance of concrete to acid reaching over 98 percent.
The achievement won a national patent in September 2025.
