Since the programme of the rural revolution in the new era was set forth in 2022, rural communities across the DPRK have made efforts to increase agricultural production in a stable and sustainable way.
Grain yields have upped year on year and an increasing number of cities, counties, farms, workteams, sub-workteams and farmers produced high yields.
The drive to change the structure of grain production gathered momentum.
Amid the greater national interest in and enthusiasm for wheat farming, the area of farmland under wheat cultivation has more than doubled for four years.
The per-hectare yield of wheat in low-yield fields in plain areas was up by 2-5 times. Farms in intermediary mountainous areas cultivated wheat as their main crop, producing more yields than ever.
With a rapid growth in wheat output, many farms produced high yields in 2023, and the national wheat production goal was overfulfilled by more than 40% in 2024.
Last year, many farms and workteams markedly boosted per-hectare yields as compared to the previous year.
Advanced farming methods were widely adopted for rice farming with the result that many farms gathered bumper harvests.
Last year, some 30 cities and counties including Sadong District in Pyongyang, Phyongwon County in South Phyongan Province and Yomju County in North Phyongan Province achieved high yields, and other regions produced numerous prolific farms, workteams and sub-workteams.
