One day in June 1963, the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il had a talk with an official.
During the talk the official requested him to tell his view on the youth.
After thinking for a while, he said that he was going to talk briefly about the youth problem rather than his view on the youth, adding that the DPRK, approaching the youth problem in a new light for the first time in history, was putting them forward as the successors to and the main-force unit of the revolution.
While working at socialist construction sites together with students in recent days, I have keenly felt that the creators of new things and performers of miracles and feats are none other than the young people and that when we rouse them, there is nothing impossible for us to do in the world, he said.
He went on to say: Young people represent the future and without them there is no future; we should address the youth problem in a far-sighted way regarding it not merely as an immediate issue for pushing forward the revolution and construction at present, but as a one related to the future of the revolution; first of all, we should give prominence to the youth, ensure they give full play to their talents and passion and give wide publicity to and appraise their merits and feats, thus making them deeply feel their pride and worth as masters of the era; we should spare nothing for them; in a word, give prominence to the youth and boundlessly love them—this is the absolutely correct attitude to and stand on the youth we should have.
