Saeppyol Street in the Hwasong area of the capital city of Pyongyang is a monumental architectural group which was built to convey the feats performed by the martyrs as they unhesitatingly laid down their lives in the overseas military operations for the sake of the immortal honour and eternal prosperity of the DPRK.
In August 2025, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un met the bereaved families of the martyrs who performed distinguished feats in the overseas military operations, and sincerely consoled them, saying that the Workers’ Party of Korea and the government would bring all the glory to the heroes revered by the whole nation and to their excellent parents who brought them up to be admirable men, and that they would also do their best to provide them, ahead of others, with a beautiful life in the country defended at the cost of the lives of the martyrs.
Soon, he noted, a new street will be built in Taesong District, Pyongyang, for the bereaved families of the soldiers, and we are going to name it Saeppyol (morning star) Street in praise of our soldiers’ exploits as brilliant as the star.
He guided the whole course of the construction project.
He attended the inauguration ceremony of the street on February 15 and made a meaningful speech.
Saeppyol Street is a source of honour for our generation and a pride of Pyongyang and our state, he said, praying for the immortality of the martyrs along with its inauguration which will etch the martyrs’ names and images in history. And he sincerely hoped that this street, a place where the ennobling souls rest and reverence from all over the country converges, will always brim over with joy and happiness.
