Inaugurated in February, the 10 000 flats at the fourth stage in the Hwasong area form another large architectural group which is stylish enough to distinguish itself from those at the first, second and third stages in terms of formative and artistic beauty.
They are featured by a good blend of classical and modern beauty and the consequent diversity of architectural formation.
In general, they are classical in architectural style and modern in finishing materials that have been applied.
A typical example is the roofs of the buildings. Two iconic buildings in the centre of the residential quarter have classically pointed roofs, and they are surrounded by obliquely arranged apartment buildings with multi-tiered roofs.
The pointed roofs are designed in different modes such as inclined plane-based one and gradation.
The exterior of the landmark twin buildings is dark brown in colour and imposing in style. They are high-storeyed but look steady and stable for a proper height ratio of their body and roof parts. Their pointed roofs are uniquely decorated with arched window openings, adding more to the classical appeal of the buildings.
Notably, the quarter is divided into two parts by the road, but the connectivity between them is ensured well by the twin towers with pointed roofs and the surrounding high-rise buildings.
Architectural diversity by a mix of classical and modern beauty is something new and innovative that cannot be seen in the previous street formation. This will provide an experience and standard for the creation of new architectural styles in street formation in future.
Another feature is that along the avenue buildings are diversely arranged in a group or scatteringly–not in a folding screen way.
This gives the depth to the quarter and highlights the three-dimensional effect of the urban space.
In addition, neighbourhood-serving amenities are arranged side by side or separately on the stylobates.
Such an arrangement will be favourable to meeting the cultural needs of the residents.
In total, the new quarter boasts modernity as well as artistic reciprocity, compatibility and connectivity of the overall urban space.
Today, the Hwasong area showcases the prosperity of the capital city and history of its construction and offers edifying experience and standard for architecture, city formation in particular, leading the construction boom across the country.
