Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- In Ryongsan-ri, Ryokpho District, Pyongyang Municipality, there is the Mausoleum of King Tongmyong (B.C.298 - B.C.259), the founder of Koguryo, which demonstrated its might as a powerful state that existed in the East for one thousand years.
In front of the gate of the mausoleum is the "Monument to the Reconstruction of the Mausoleum of King Tongmyong" with the autographic letters of President Kim Il Sung .
The mausoleum consists of the tomb with more than 160 platforms, the image of King Tongmyong, over 30 stone sculptures, dozens of fine art pieces showing the fortitude and customs of the Koguryo people, the Jongrung Temple and other architectural structures.
In its surrounding, there are the Jinju pond, vast open space, armful-thick pine trees, greenery and flowering plants, resembling a recreation ground.
The mausoleum, which was destroyed beyond recognition owing to the Japanese imperialists' vicious moves to obliterate the national culture and to the three-year Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953), was wonderfully reconstructed thanks to the wise leadership of the President.
When he visited the mausoleum in August 1953, President Kim Il Sung saw to it that an excavating team with experts was organized to comprehensively unearth and ascertain it, and gave an instruction on sprucing up the surrounding area.
Later, he went round the mausoleum several times to ensure that the principle of the Juche character and the principle of historicism were maintained in excavating and restoring the mausoleum and clarified in detail the issues arising in doing so.
Under his meticulous guidance, the mausoleum was inaugurated on May 14, 1993 as a precious national cultural heritage of the Korean people and a relic of national treasure.
The Mausoleum of King Tongmyong was registered as a world cultural heritage in July 2004. -0-
