The Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Silk Mill puts on an artistic performance on different anniversaries every year.
Each performance is given by not only the employees but also children who attend the kindergarten in the mill.
Children put on the stage the chorus “When Our Mum Smiles Happily”, as well as a solo and magic piece, for an event in April this year.
Young jugglers took out of an empty box Haebaragi-brand school things, dairy products, bread, silk thread and quilt one after another, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Those who were the most pleased were the women employees whose children were performing on the stage.
“We were very excited,” said one of them. “We owe much to the kindergarten. Without it, we cannot overfulfil the national economic plan every year and become innovators.”
The kindergarten has a long history. The present one was rebuilt over a decade ago to suit the children’s mind.
In the cosy kindergarten, children grow up healthily.
Jong Kyong Sim, headmistress of the kindergarten, said that dairy products, meat, eggs, confectionery and fruits are supplied to children every day in conformity with the children’s nutritious foodstuff supply standards approved by the state.
The kindergarteners are taught the mother tongue, counting, music, drawing, paduk (go) and abacus.
From this year, they are learning a foreign language according to the second 12-year compulsory education programme.
With the help of textbooks and multimedia presentations compiled with interesting pictures of different themes and songs, they practise correct pronunciation and simple conversation.
The kindergarten directs special efforts to finding children with aptitudes for arts, especially vocal music and piano playing, and cultivating their talents.
