Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Vice Marshal of the Korean People's Army Kim Ik Hyon, member of the WPK Central Committee and deputy to the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, died of long illness at 19:00 of Jan. 15 at the age of 87 to our sorrow.
An obituary of Kim Ik Hyon was published Friday by the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK and the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly.
According to it, he was a revolutionary soldier loyal to the WPK as he devoted his all to the struggle for the victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche and the Songun revolutionary cause.
It said:
He participated in the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle led by President Kim Il Sung and bravely fought to defend the headquarters of the revolution and liberate the country with arms in his hand.
After the liberation of the country he made positive efforts to unite young people close around the party, build regular revolutionary armed forces and firmly defend the revolutionary base in the northern half of Korea in hearty response to the line of building a new country put forward by the President. During the arduous Fatherland Liberation War fought to beat back the U.S. imperialists' armed invasion he led servicepersons to crush enemies, contributing to the victory in the war.
After the war, he thoroughly implemented the party's self-defensive military line, holding an important post in the People's Army, and thus contributed to developing the army into invincible revolutionary armed forces. He devotedly worked to materialize the party's idea of building a militia force, true to it.
He was awarded the title of twice hero of the DPRK and "Order of Kim Il Sung", the highest order of the DPRK, and many other state commendations for the feats he performed for the country and the revolution.
Though he died, the feats he performed for the party, the revolution, the country and the people will shine long, noted the obituary.
