Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the construction sites of the Huichon Power Station and encouraged the builders who launched a new year campaign.
The first leg of his field guidance was the construction site of the Ryongrim Dam of Huichon Power Station No. 1.

Going round the construction sites where temperature went up and down 30 degrees below zero, he acquainted himself in detail with the progress made in the projects and expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the builders have done a lot of work in a matter of several months and are bringing about miracles and innovations day by day from the outset of the year in hearty response to the Party's call for glorifying this year which marks the 65th anniversary of the founding of the WPK as a year of historic change to be recorded in the annals of the country, in particular.

Seeing the soldier-builders performing feats despite the biting cold in the northern area to deeply move every visitor, he said that great, indeed, is the mental power of the army wholeheartedly responding to the Party's call and highly appreciated their revolutionary spirit.

After hearing about their firm pledge to finish the construction of the Ryongrim Dam ahead of schedule, he was confident that the giant dam of Huichon Power Station No. 1 would tower and a large man-made lake appear before long thanks to the heroic struggle of the soldier-builders. He earnestly called on the builders to bring earlier the day of victory without fail by their concerted efforts.

The next leg of his guidance was the construction site of the dam of Huichon Power Station No. 2.

After being briefed on the construction before a large map showing the panoramic view of the power station, he went round the construction site of the dam reminiscent of a battle site to learn about the progress made in the projects.

Watching the dam making its majestic appearance, he was greatly pleased with the miracle unprecedented in the history of the dam construction the soldier-builders have worked through a dynamic charge with a patriotic desire to build a thriving nation at an early date. He highly appreciated their feats.

The devoted drive of the builders of the power station including the soldier-builders, the creators of the "Huichon Speed", a new Chollima speed, has opened a bright prospect of completing the vast construction of the large-scale power station in a matter of a few years, the projects which would take more than ten years at an ordinary pace, he noted, extending his heartfelt gratitude to all the builders of the Huichon Power Station for creating the speed of new advance, the speed of Songun Korea, by giving full play to the revolutionary soldier spirit, the revolutionary spirit of fortitude. He offered his special thanks to them.

He set forth highly important tasks which would serve as guidelines for completing the construction of the Huichon Power Station earlier than scheduled.

It is a very difficult and Herculean task to finish the vast projects in a matter of 2-3 years but it is quite possible to do so as long as there are the inexhaustible strength of the army and the people and the foundation of the powerful self-supporting industry, he said, stressing the need for the whole Party and army and all the people to turn out in a great offensive to wind up the construction of the power station before 2012.

He underlined the need to pay special attention to the builders' living including lodging and boarding so that they might not feel even the slightest inconvenience.

Today when a new bright morning of prosperity is breaking on the land of the country, our army and people are highly proud of being victors and replete with the militant stamina and the determination to bring about unprecedented miracles and leap forward is running high throughout the country, he said, calling upon the whole Party and army and all the people to turn out as one to effect a great surge on all fronts and thus glorify this significant year as a year of victory, a historic year to be recorded in the annals of the country.

He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Kim Kyong Hui, Jang Song Thaek and Pak Nam Gi, department directors of the WPK Central Committee, and other leading officials of the WPK Central Committee, KPA General Hyon Chol Hae and other commanding officers of the army.
