Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- The results of the recent by-election in south Korea reflect the south Korean people's mindset desirous of independence, democracy, national reconciliation and unity and reunification, observes Minju Joson Saturday in a by-lined commentary.

The conservative forces left no means untried to win the recent Seoul mayoral election. The U.S. openly supported the conservative forces, claiming that the leftist camp's victory may jeopardize the "alliance" with it. Their despicable moves, however, touched off strong opposition among the south Korean people.
The candidate from the forces for democratic reforms made policy commitments to building a new society in reflection of the public mindset. Many civic and public organizations including youth and students organizations and reunification movement organizations and opposition parties joined the committee of measures for the election of the candidate from forces for democratic reforms and conducted brisk activities to help him gain votes.
As a result, the candidate from the forces for progressive and democratic reforms was elected Seoul mayor, foiling the high-handed and arbitrary practices, plots and intrigues of the conservative group.
Through the recent election the south Korean people gained precious experience that if they go united, they can do anything.
In the election they clearly demonstrated their wish and willingness for independence, democracy and reunification. Pro-American sycophants who get frantic with fascist suppression and confrontation with fellow countrymen, swimming against the people's mindset, have no future. This is the main review of the recent election.
With no desperate efforts can the conservative group hold in check the struggle of the people for new independent and democratic politics, a new life and national reunification. They will only precipitate its miserable end.
