1st Session of 11th SPA of DPRK Held

Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The First Session of the 11th Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on September 3.
The session was attended by newly elected deputies to the SPA.
Also present there as observers were officials of the Party, military and power organs, social organizations, ministries and national institutions, officials of the scientific, educational, cultural and art, public health and press institutions and officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) visiting the socialist homeland.
Leader Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, appeared on the platform.
The platform was taken by senior officials of the Party, the state and the army, Kim Yong Nam, Jo Myong Rok, Pak Song Chol, Kim Yong Ju, Hong Song Nam, Kim Yong Chun, Kim Il Chol, Jon Pyong Ho, Yon Hyong Muk, Han Song Ryong, Kye Ung Thae, Ri Yong Mu, Ri Ul Sol, Paek Hak Rim, Kim Chol Man, Yang Hyong Sop, Choe Thae Bok and members of the Presidium of the SPA.
So Man Sul, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon, was also seen on the platform.
All the participants in the session observed a moment's silence in memory of President Kim Il Sung.
Deputy Yang Hyong Sop made an opening speech at the session.
At the session Deputy Choe Thae Bok was elected chairman of the SPA and deputies Kang Nung Su and Ryo Won Gu were elected vice-chairpersons.
The session elected Deputy Jon Pyong Ho chairman of the Credentials Committee of the 11th SPA and 6 deputies members of the committee.
The session decided on the following agenda items.
1. Election of chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
2. Election of the state leading organs of the DPRK.
3. On the adoption of the decision of the DPRK SPA "On approving the external measures taken by the DPRK Foreign Ministry as regards the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S."
The session discussed the first agenda item.
Deputy Kim Yong Nam made a speech on the election of the chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
Hee courteously presented to the SPA the proposal of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK to reelect Kim Jong Il chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
All the deputies and participants fully supported and approved the proposal with enthusiastic cheers and applause.
The session solemnly declared that Kim Jong Il has been reelected chairman of the NDC of the DPRK.
The session discussed the second agenda item.
President, vice-presidents and honorary vice-presidents of the Presidium of the DPRK SPA and its secretary and members were elected at the session.
At the proposal of Kim Jong Il, the session elected first vice-chairman, vice-chairmen and members of the NDC of the DPRK.
Premier of the DPRK Cabinet was elected at the session.
Deputy Pak Pong Ju, premier of the Cabinet, proposed the list of members of the Cabinet and they were appointed with unanimous approval.
The session appointed the public prosecutor general of the Central Public Prosecutors Office and elected the president of the Central Court.
It elected the committees of the DPRK SPA, the Legislation Committee and the Budget Committee.
The session discussed the third agenda item.
The decision of the DPRK SPA "On approving the external measures taken by the DPRK Foreign Ministry as regards the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S." was adopted with the unanimous approval at the session.
Deputy Jon Pyong Ho, chairman of the Credentials Committee, made a report of the committee of the 11th SPA of the DPRK and the session adopted a decision on approving it.
On behalf of the members of the Cabinet Pak Pong Ju took an oath before the deputies to the SPA.
