The birth anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il (Day of the Shining Star) was marked abroad with splendor.
National and regional preparatory committees chaired by political and public personages were organized in Pakistan, Nepal, Russia, Serbia, Romania, Mexico and Venezuela.
Preparatory committees headed by party leadership members were formed in Iran, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Spain and Brazil. In Cambodia the deputy prime minister in charge of Royal Palace was elected as chairman of the preparatory committee upon authorization of the king.
The International Alliance of Societies for the Study of the Juche Idea and Songun Policy in East European and Central Asian Regions formed an international preparatory committee with its general secretary as chairman.
Preparatory committees sponsored diverse political and cultural events in praise of Kim Jong Il.
On the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star, Swiss bodies issued a joint statement, and statements and articles were released by the general secretary of the National Guidance Council of the Pioneer Party of Indonesia, the chairman of the Supreme Council of the National Socialist Party of Romania, the official representative of the Greek branch of the Korean Friendship Association and the chairman of the Arab Committee for Solidarity with Korean People and Supporting the Reunification of Korea.
The king and the great queen of Cambodia and the general chairperson of the Central Directive Council of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle sent floral baskets to the DPRK embassies and delegations of foreign political parties and public personages visited DPRK missions in various countries.
National symposiums on the Juche idea "National Sovereignty and Global Peace" and "Struggle for Global Independence and Peace" were hosted in India and Mexico. A national meeting took place in Venezuela and a joint celebration meeting of Nordic progressive political parties and friendship bodies in Sweden.
Colorful political and cultural events including Kimjongilia Exhibition, ceremony for visiting the Kimilsungia Hothouse and book, photo and handcraft exhibition, internet exhibition and book-donating ceremony were significantly held in many countries.
Foreign media gave wide publicity to the sacred career and exploits of Kim Jong Il before and after his birth anniversary.
