Minor Hydroelectric Power Stations Conducive to Economic Activities in DPRK

Date: 31/05/2019 | Source: KCNA.kp (En) | Read original version at source

Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Drought and high temperature lasting in the DPRK for the second straight year cause difficulties in the electricity output of large-scale hydroelectric power stations.

Under such conditions, various provinces of the country are raising the operation rate of their minor hydroelectric power stations to the maximum for regional economic activities and people's livelihood.

Taking the lead in the work for normal operation of minor power stations is Jagang Province, which has built such power stations on a massive scale from the period of the Arduous March.

The province supplies electricity produced at those power stations to local industrial factories and co-op farms as well as residential districts. Scores of minor power stations including the Hungju Youth Power Station and the Manpho Yonha Power Station have been in normal operation even in the period of water shortage.

Power stations in Taehongdan County of Ryanggang Province produce several thousand kilowatts of momentary electricity to be supplied to industrial establishments, co-op farms and houses.

Similar practices can be seen in South Hamgyong and other provinces.

It is the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea to build minor power stations in a practicable way and ensure their normal operation for bringing substantial benefit to the people. -0-
