“We regard it as a good judgment and proper action for the US President to make efforts to keep the rapport he had with our Chairman by sending a personal letter again at such a time when enormous difficulties and challenges lie in the way of improving DPRK-US relations, and we think that this should be highly appreciated,” said Kim Yo Jong, first deputy department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, on Sunday.
According to her statement, President Trump in his letter explained his plan to propel the bilateral relationship and expressed his willingness to render cooperation in the anti-epidemic work, saying that he was impressed by the efforts made by the Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission to keep his people from the serious threat of the epidemic.
He also said that he values his relations with Chairman Kim Jong Un and that there were difficulties in conveying his thoughts because he failed to have communications with him often recently, and hoped to keep in close touch with the Chairman in the future.
“We view such a personal letter of President Trump as a good example showing the special and firm personal friendship with Chairman Kim Jong Un.
“Chairman Kim Jong Un also reaffirmed his special rapport with President Trump and appreciated his personal letter,” Kim Yo Jong noted.
Fortunately, she said, the personal relationship between the two top leaders is not as distant as bilateral relations, and it is very excellent. But she drew a line by saying that bilateral relations and their future should not be judged in haste in the light of that personal ties and, furthermore, neither predictions nor expectations should be made based on them.
She warned that if impartiality and balance are not maintained and unilateral and greedy intention is not abandoned, bilateral relations will continue to get worse.
She also said that when the equilibrium is kept dynamically and morally and justice is ensured between the two countries, not merely by the personal letter between the two leaders, bilateral relations and dialogue for them would be thinkable.
Saying that even at this moment the DPRK is working hard to develop and defend itself on its own under the cruel environment the US is keen to "provide", she pointed out that though the DPRK tries to hope for the day when bilateral relations would be as good as the two top leaders', it has to wait and see whether it could actually happen.
