Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Ryongsong Machine Complex(RMC) in May 1984. He said that it was a yardstick of the economic power of the nation to make a large press. He assigned the workers of the RMC the honorable task of producing a 10,000-ton press the way a 3,000-ton press was made with indomitable spirit and courage during the great Chollima upswing starting it from naught. Affectionately looking at the workers and officials of the RMC he told them to make the press without fail and said that they would prove themselves of very high caliber when they finished it off. He warmly affirmed that the RMC was a powerful complex.
The workers of the RMC had already been experienced in producing the 3,000-ton press, a 8-meter turning lathe, a 6,000-ton press, a 70-meter double-housing planer and other giant machines. They buckled down to making the 10,000-ton press, convinced that they could succeed in doing so without fail.
The designers of the RMC finally found a method of casting the bottom crossbeam of the press with its apparatus and technology.
Meanwhile, its workers did not wait for designs for their future products with folded arms.
In the workshops of the RMC their employees guessed the sizes and types of the spare parts of the press and worked boldly in a big way to produce the relevant jigs and apparatus beforehand.
The Party and managerial officials of the RMC, its technologists, its nursery teachers and the members of its supply department cudgeled their brains to acquire ideas of technological innovations and help toward producing the press ahead of schedule.
Thanks to this devotion of theirs, the press was designed, made separately and fitted together as a group in no more than one and half a year although the assemblage of its counterpart alone took a foreign country thirty months. As a consequence, the RMC proudly presented it to the mother Party on the occasion of its 40th birthday.
