There are many old structures and remains on Moran Hill like Ulmil Pavilion, Choesung Pavilion, Pubyok Pavilion and Chilsong Gate.

Moran Hill, where historic relics remain as they are and which has been turned into a people’s cultural recreation and pleasure ground, is associated with the noble love for the country and nation and the efforts of President Kim Il Sung.

On April 8, 1946, the next year of the country’s liberation, the President looked round the historic relics and remains on Moran Hill and gave valuable instructions to preserve and manage them well.

The President explained that the historic relics and remains on Moran Hill vividly prove the excellent architecture and high artistic talents of the Korean ancestors who had created splendid culture since a long ago and they are associated with the patriotic spirit of the ancestors who fought against the foreign aggressors. The President stressed that proper preserving and managing them is of weighty significance in enhancing the people’s national pride and self-confidence and educating them in patriotism as the cultural remains and relics created by ancestors are the valuable treasure of the nation.

The President gave precious instructions to preserve and manage the historic relics and remains on Moran Hill as they are.

The President instructed to restore without delay such structures as Pubyok Pavilion and Chilsong Gate which were going to be collapsed, repaint what needs and arrange finely the surroundings of structures. The President also put forward the task to refurbish Moran Hill into a splendid place of cultural recreation for Pyongyang citizens.

The President said that Moran Hill that has been well known as a scenic spot since a long ago was a pride not only of Pyongyang but of Korea but it had been a pleasure resort of those with money and power when Korea had been under the colonial occupation of the Japanese imperialists. He also said that the hill should become a place of the working people’s pleasure and cultural recreation as Korea gained its independence.

The President told in detail not to damage the historic relics and remains on Moran Hill or hurt its scenic beauty while building in Pyongyang City.

The President also told to take good care of trees and plant many trees of good kinds, on the hill, readjust the road leading up toward the hill and plant different kinds of flowers on the environs of the roads so as to refurbish the hill into a beautiful park with thick foliage and every kind of flowers in full bloom.

On March 2, 1946, the President came to Moran Hill together with anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk and Kim Jong Il to rouse all the people to the struggle to turn the hill into a people’s cultural and pleasure ground.

Moran Hill has been refurbished more finely into a people’s cultural recreation centre thanks to the President’s noble intention of patriotism.
