Thinking of soldiers waiting for him

Through the swirling snow, Chairman Kim Jong Il came to visit a company of an army unit in a frontline area where even wild birds are reluctant to build their nests.

The soldiers looked up at him with tears rolling down their cheeks, as they heard him saying he came to see the service personnel who took pains more than any others to defend the frontline post of the country.

On the other hand, they wondered why he came through such a rough snowy road.

Their confusion dispelled only after they heard what an official told them after the Chairman left their company.

Before visiting the company, the Chairman inspected a power station built by the army unit.

It was not yet light and the surrounding area was all covered with snow. Then suddenly two rays of headlights drew nearer through the darkness.

It was surely a car, but it looked like a snowdrift rolling forward. Only when it arrived near them could the officials see that it was a car at the sight of the front window almost covered with snow.

They approached the car and stopped all of a sudden with their eyes wide open.

It was Chairman Kim Jong Il who was getting off the car.

On arrival at the unit’s headquarters, he told the officials to the following effect: Actually, it was difficult to make time this time, too, but at the thought that you who are defending the frontline post might be waiting for me at this yearend, I got up at four o’clock though I had gone to bed after one to come here. It was dark outside and the road was rough in heavy snow, but I was very happy and felt easier in my way to the frontline post.

The official’s talk was over, but the soldiers recollected once again his “snow-covered field car” which might be heading for elsewhere to see other soldiers.
