Carried on the first page of the August 21 1960 issue of Minju Chongnyon newspaper was the news about the newly built base for the extracurricular activities for children at Songdowon and the camping of 180 members of the Children’s Union from across the country at the place.
Since then schoolchildren’s singing and laughter have rung out in the blue sky over Songdowon.
Originally, the period of camping at Songdowon was from June to late October. After being told about this as he looked round the camp, President Kim Il Sung said that the start date seemed to be a bit late and proposed starting camping in mid-April, saying the country’s spring is splendid.
In the new century of the Juche era, the camping which had begun in spring was set to be continued even in winter thanks to the warm love of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
The camping flag has fluttered at Songdowon for 60 years.
The camping at the place is cherished deep in the minds of schoolchildren together with the camping flag.
Because the fond memories were provided by the warm love of President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il and Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
The camping flag of Songdowon will vigorously flutter telling the history of happiness of children in the country.
