Pyongyang, October 23 (KCNA) -- Mt Kuwol is one of the six famous mountains in Korea.

Kuwol means September in Korean. Its name was derived from the meaning that its scenery in September is very beautiful.

The mountain is situated in northwestern region of South Hwanghae Province.

It consists of 99 big and small queer peaks like Sahwang Peak (954m), the main peak, formed by weathering and erosion.

In deep valleys, you can see falls and ponds like Ryongyon Falls and Samhyongje Falls. There are also more than 600 species of plants like pine, maple, wild insam and astragalus, and roe deer, pheasant, cuckoo, owl and other living creatures in the mountain.

The mountain has many historical relics like the Tangun Pavilion where Tangun, the ancestral father of the Korean nation, cultivated his courage and the Woljong Temple with a history of more than 1 000 years.

In October Juche 85 (1996), Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the autumn-tinted Mt Kuwol and indicated task and ways for further sprucing it up as a resort for the people.

This mountain area was listed on the World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2004. -0-
