Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- Terrapin has been regarded as a material for tonics and health food for its good taste and medicinal effect.
According to old medical and cook books "Tonguibogam" and "Kyuhapchongso", terrapin soup, grilled and powdered carapace of terrapin and steamed terrapin are good for treating arthritis, jaundice caused by indigestion, neuralgia and intestinal trouble.
For such pharmacological action, terrapin dishes had been served only for the ruling and exploiting classes in the past.
Today, they are served for the people in the DPRK. Public catering establishments like the Delicacy House under Okryu Restaurant, the Pyongyang Taedonggang Seafood Restaurant and Chongryu Restaurant serve vinegar-seasoned raw terrapin, terrapin broth and other terrapin dishes.
The Pyongyang Terrapin Farm ensures the breeding environment of terrapin on a high level to increase the production of terrapins. And a terrapin-breeding base was newly arranged at the Sunchon Catfish Farm. -0-
