Russian newspapers and a regional body splashed on October 17 to mark the 94th anniversary of the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU).
The special articles carried the photos of President Kim Il Sung.
The Russian paper Komsomolskaya Pravda said in an article entitled "DIU and Workers' Party of Korea" that President Kim Il Sung realized that the independence of Korea could not be regained through the early communist movement and nationalist movement characterized by power grab, factional strife, sycophancy and dogmatism and that he groped for a new path of the struggle and formed the DIU with young generation of revolutionaries who shared the same idea and will.
