Ushering in the New Year 1980 our people were greatly excited at the thought that the forthcoming 6th Congress of the WPK would be going on this year to be recorded in their national history as a great festival of victors.
At this juncture Chairman Kim Jong Il called officials to his side.
Looking round them with ardent eyes he said that true to the militant slogan advanced by President Kim Il Sung in his New Year Address, we should add the most brilliant chapter to our history this year when the 6th Congress of the WPK would be held and that down through history our WPK had always brought about new upswings in its production and construction on every occasion before the convocation of its forthcoming congresses.
He stressed that the national economic plan for 1980 must be fulfilled more than two and a half months ahead of schedule before the 6th Congress of the WPK although its execution quotas were higher than those of the plan for the previous year and that this was the determination of the WPK.
This infinitely encouraged the officials and animated them to great efforts.
In mid-June that year Kim Jong Il asked an official by telephone how the national economic plan for the year was being executed and said that it was the intention of Kim Il Sung and his resolve to carry it out before the 6th Congress of the WPK. He uttered his will to conduct the 100-day campaign for the congress.
A few days later he called the official to his side again. He said with deep emotion that our workers overfulfilled their plan for the first half of the year and spoke highly of their loyalty and fighting spirit. He affirmed confidently that the 100-day campaign must be mapped out in detail and carried on in a big way trusting their great loyalty.
It was not until then that the official realized in what the courageous decision and will of our WPK struck root.
The implicit trust of our people in the WPK, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and their ardent loyalty to them really constitute a source of the unfathomable strength of the WPK.
