Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- Hoeryong City in North Hamgyong Province of the DPRK is famous for white apricot.
Hoeryong white apricot is the best among the country's apricot species, and it is now cultivated in other areas, too.
The white apricot grows well anywhere like mountain, roadside and courtyard. In general, this tree is 9-10 meters high and produces 25-27 kilograms of fruits. The weight of each fruit is 40-60 grams, and it has much sweet taste and juice and rich nutritive substances.
20-odd white apricot trees in Changhyo-ri of the city were listed as a living monument of the country since they are of scientific significance in the research into their peculiarities as species. And the Hoeryong white apricot was registered as a local intangible cultural heritage.
When visiting Hoeryong in July Juche 43 (1954) and on some other occasions, President Kim Il Sung gave detailed teachings on the cultivation of Hoeryong white apricot including the issue of planting many trees of this species and the method of processing the fruits. -0-
