Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- There took place army-people rallies in North Phyongan, North Hwanghae, Jagang and South Hamgyong provinces on Tuesday to extend the greatest glory to Supreme Leader?Kim Jong Un upon his election as general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), and to vow to thoroughly implement the decisions made at the 8th Congress of the WPK.

Attending the rallies were officials of local Party and power organs, working people's organizations, factories, enterprises and cooperative farms and working people and officers and men of the Korean People's Army (KPA) and the Public Security Forces.

The chief secretaries of the provincial party committees and the chairman of a provincial people's committee made addresses, which were followed by speeches.

Speakers extended the greatest glory and the warmest congratulations to Kim Jong Un as a token of the ardent loyalty of all the Party members, service personnel and other people.

They called upon officials to make thorough preparations from the start, fully determined to prove their loyalty to the Party, revolution and people with practical working ability and results, and to fulfill their responsibility and duty at the van of the advancing ranks.

They stressed the need to wage a vigorous ideological campaign for equipping officials, Party members and working people with the idea and spirit of the Party congress and to make every working site seethe with the implementation of the decisions made at the Party congress.

They also underscored the need for cities and counties to set the realistic development strategies and long-term goals accordant to their regional characteristics, translate them into reality without fail and thus turn the cities and counties into developed regions with their own specific features.

They said that light industry factories should hold fast to the home production of raw materials and recycling as lifeline and the main orientation, increase the production of quality consumer goods and rural communities accelerate the three revolutions-ideological, technological and cultural- and thoroughly materialize the socialist rural theses.

They called upon service personnel to be the first death-defying corps, the first shock brigade making a breakthrough for advance at the van of the struggle for implementing the decisions made at the Party Congress in the spirit of devotedly defending the Party Central Committee.

They called for devoting themselves to bringing about the prosperity of our socialist state under the uplifted banner of self-reliance.

Letters of pledge to Kim Jong Un were adopted at the rallies.
