Recently, bird flu has spread fast across different countries and regions, causing significant damage.
In particular, Japan has sustained serious damage. Due to the bird flu that swept over some ten prefectures from November last year, more than 3.1 million chickens were put down by mid-December. The virus reportedly continued to spread from the western region to the east in the New Year.
The situation in south Korea is also serious. During the first four days of the New Year, the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu virus with a high fatality rate was detected in poultry farms of Kyonggi, North and South Jolla and South Chungchong provinces, resulting in the killing of a large number of poultry, and the same kind of bird flu was discovered in North Chungchong Province.
In India, the fatal flu is spreading in seven provinces. Some 2 400 migratory birds were found dead in the country, including wild geese which were discovered near a lake and confirmed to be infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus. In one province, the H5N8 bird flu killed about 12 000 ducks, while some 150 000 chickens in over 20 poultry farms died from unknown cause in another province.
Migratory birds are rapidly spreading the virus over Europe. The H5N8 bird flu inflicted serious harm in the southwestern part of France. About 400 000 ducks were slaughtered between December 20 last year and January 8 this year in Landes.
