Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- In Sonnae-dong, Mangyongdae District of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, there is Sosan Fort showing the high fortification of Koguryo Kingdom (B.C. 277-A.D. 668).
This fort was built in 552-586 when the construction of the Walled City of Pyongyang was going on. After setting Pyongyang as the capital, Koguryo built it as a subsidiary defense fort.
The fort is 2 170 meters in circumference.
Discovered at the walls and inside of the fort were many red and grey roofing tile pieces, iron arrowheads and iron armor.
The shape of the fort is rectangular and stones for the fort have a well-trimmed quadrangular pyramid shape.
Red roofing tile was used in the period of Koguryo and the grey one in the period of Koryo (918-1392).
Such facts go to prove that the fort was built in the period of Koguryo for the first time and it was used in the period of Koryo, too.
Sosan Fort serves as a valuable historical material in studying the high fortification of Koguryo and the then history and culture. -0-
