Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- In Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, there is the Chollima Statue unveiled during the great Chollima age. It has been well-known to the world as a monument showing the heroic spirit of the Korean people and a symbol of the DPRK.
Chollima means a fabulous winged horse symbolic of extremely swift speed.
In the last 20th century, the DPRK people made epoch-making changes in socialist construction by dashing forward at the speed of Chollima under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung .
After the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953), the Chollima age began in the DPRK when it had to go through trials and difficulties.
At dawn of December 28, Juche 45 (1956), the President visited the then Kangson Steel Plant to talk frankly with its workers about the difficult conditions of the country. He said it would be good for the country if it has 10 000 tons of rolled steel in addition, stressing that when other people take one step, we must take ten, and when other people take ten steps, we must take one hundred. Inspired by his deep trust, those workers produced 120 000 tons of steel with a blooming mill of 60 000-ton capacity next year.
The flames of the great Chollima upswing, kindled by them, soon spread to all other sectors of socialist construction.
The then Kim Chaek Iron Works turned out 270 000 tons of pig iron with the equipment of 190 000-ton rated capacity and the then Hwanghae Iron Works built a large blast furnace in less than one year.
Workers in the machine industrial sector manufactured a tractor within 30-odd days, a truck within 40 days and an electric locomotive in one year, while making 3 000 ton press, large-size water pump, excavator and bulldozer.
In this period, builders of the capital city fabricated a flat in 14 minutes to create the Pyongyang speed and at least 13 000 more machine tools than the state plan were produced in a year.
At the speed of Chollima, the DPRK people could successfully carry out the gigantic task of industrialization in a matter of 14 years to build a socialist industrial state.
Today, they are vigorously advancing toward a powerful socialist nation under the guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , by carrying forward the spirit of the forerunners who adorned with victory and glory the annals of the revolution in the spirit of Chollima. -0-
