Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- A seminar of Korean social scientists in Japan on the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) was held at Korean University of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) in Tokyo, Japan, on Feb. 11.
Present there were Ri Yong Su, chairman of the Korean Social Scientists Association in Japan, and other members of the association.
The seminar was held to deeply study and grasp the essence, main contents and historic significance of the 8th Congress of the Party which serves as a great turning point and historic watershed in the development of the Korean revolution.
Speeches were made on the basis of study of the main idea of the report on the work of the 7th Party Central Committee made by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un at the 8th Congress of the Party, review on the work in the field of economic construction and the tasks facing it, the tasks for strengthening the national defense capabilities, the issue of national reunification, the external policy, etc.
Ri Pyong Hwi, professor at the Center for Korean Studies of Korean University, explained the historic background and the purpose of the 8th Congress of the Party and successes achieved during the period under review.
Referring to the purpose and significance of the congress, he said that its convocation is not only a manifestation of the firm confidence of the WPK to lead the Korean revolution to a next-stage victory but also the strong will and solemn pledge to live up to the people's absolute trust and expectations by fulfilling the responsibility and duties for the future of the country.
Saying that the key to breaking through the existing manifold difficulties with utmost certainty and speed lies in consolidating our own strength, our internal force in all aspects, he added that it is the main idea and main spirit of the Party Congress to achieve a great fresh victory in all fields by remarkably increasing our own strength, our internal force, in socialist construction.
Then Kang Il Chon, vice-chairman of the Korean Social Scientists Association in Japan, gave explanations about the strategy for socialist economic construction set forth at the 8th Congress of the Party, Choe Yong Hae, dean of Political Economy Faculty of Korean University, about the issue of national reunification and the external policy, and Ryom Mun Song, associate professor of Foreign Language Faculty of the university, about steadily strengthening the national defense capabilities. -0-
