Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- In the western area of the DPRK, there is the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, a huge base of metallurgical industry.
Some days ago, its employees appealed to all the working people across the country to carry out without fail the first-year tasks of the five-year plan set forth at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.
They, strong in patriotism and the spirit of self-reliance, had demonstrated the mettle and merit of the heroic Korean workers, promoting the economic development of the country in each period of harsh trial of revolution.
True to the guidance of the peerlessly great men, they have adorned the history of the complex with only miracles.
After Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule (August 15, 1945), they reconstructed the then iron works severely destroyed by the Japanese imperialists in a short period to turn out the first molten iron and surpassed the peak-year level of production in 1950.
After the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953), they built a 100-ton open-hearth furnace, twice as large as the former destroyed by the aggressors, in less than one year to produce the first molten iron.
In order to carry out the first-year tasks for the first five-year plan set forth at the December Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in 1956, they completed the construction of a blast furnace, which would usually take more than two years only to design, in a matter of ten months by their own efforts.
Today, the workers of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex are taking the lead in implementing the decisions of the 8th WPK Congress, carrying forward the traditions of the forerunners.
This year, the complex set a high goal to raise the production of iron and steel twice last year's while speeding up such projects for expanding its production capacity as the general overhaul of oxygen heat blast furnace, the extension of a large oxygen separator and the construction of energy-saving iron blast furnace.
They are now filled with strong will to surely attain the goal by giving full play to their strength and fervor for the socialist country. -0-
