In response to the appeal of the workers of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, various sectors and units of the national economy held meetings to vow to carry out the first-year tasks of the five-year plan.

At the beginning of the meetings, the appeal from the workers of the complex to the working people across the country was read out. Leading officials put forward this year’s tasks for their units, followed by oath-taking speeches.

At the meeting of the Secretariat of the Cabinet, the speakers pledged to push ahead with the work to readjust and reinforce the economy substantially and staunchly on the basis of the fundamental requirement and direction of improving the management of the socialist economy.

Officials and workers of the Jaeryong and Unnyul mines stressed that they would concentrate efforts on the work of creating new productive capacity while putting the current production on a normal footing.

The meeting of the Ministry of Chemical Industry demonstrated the spirit of exertion of the ministry officials and civil servants who became fully aware of the importance of their parts in further enhancing the independent nature of the chemical industry and making it assume a substantial role as the core industry.

Workers of power stations and their supply units stressed the need to speed up repair and maintenance and modernization of power-generation facilities by relying on advanced science and technology and make the most of electricity.

At the meetings of coal-mining units, speakers vowed to implement their tasks for the first year of the five-year plan with a noble sense of duty that they take up an outpost for the development of the self-supporting economy.

Those at the meetings of mineral ore mining units burned with a zeal for increasing the production of minerals that are badly needed for the development of the independent economy.

The meetings of forestry units highlighted the matters of satisfactorily meeting the need for timber of the national economy and raising the rate of mechanization in the forestry work.

Speakers at the meetings of the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport resolved to satisfy the demand for transport by organizing and directing transport services scrupulously.

The meetings of the machine industry sector were brimming over with the immense revolutionary enthusiasm to bring about an upsurge in the production campaign of the first year for implementing the decisions of the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea that defined the machine industry as an important sector leading and hauling the overall economic sectors.

Speakers at the meetings of the construction and building materials sector expressed their resolve to fully discharge their responsibility in construction for realizing the Party’s plans.

Those at the meetings of the light industry sector were determined to revitalize production with high awareness that they play a major part in solving the people’s food, clothing and housing problems.

Those at the meetings of the fishery sector pledged to direct efforts into strengthening the material and technical foundations including modernization of fishing vessels and implements, while launching a mass drive for aquaculture.

Officials and workers in the sectors of land management and ecological environment protection made firm resolves to turn out in the efforts with a fresh determination, bearing in mind that theirs are undertakings of strategic importance for protecting the lives and health of the people and improving the landscape of the country and for the future of the country.

Speakers at the meetings in the agricultural sector noted that they would become patriotic farmers defending the Party and revolution with rice, cherishing in mind that they are in charge of the major thrust area of socialist economic construction.

Those at the meetings of provincial government organs said that they would become the administrators responsible for the livelihood of the people and propel the development of their regions.
