Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Workers in the metallurgical industrial sector of the DPRK fulfilled the January and February plans on indices of key products including pig iron, steel and rolled steel after they turned out in a drive to implement the decisions made at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Inheriting the fighting spirit of the forerunners who worked miracles of building a 100-ton open-hearth furnace, instead of the one destroyed by the war, in less than one year to turn out the first molten iron, the employees of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex have constantly stepped up the production of iron and steel in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance, setting this year's production target twice higher as against the last year's. They called upon the working people across the country to carry out the first-year tasks of the five-year plan without fail.

The workers at the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex have put the daily production on a normal basis by raising the operating rate of oxygen heat blast furnace to increase the output of molten iron. It is their fixed resolve to carry through the tasks set forth at the 8th Party Congress by displaying the same fighting spirit of the forerunners who turned out 270 000 tons of pig iron with a blast furnace of 190 000-ton rated capacity after the Fatherland Liberation War.

Those of the Chollima Steel Complex, too, who kindled the flames of the great Chollima upswing by producing 120 000 tons of steel with a blooming mill of 60 000-ton capacity, have made a signal progress in the steel production, concentrating efforts on the adjustment and reinforcement of production foundations.

Meanwhile, plans for the production of iron ore, electrode and ferroalloy were carried out to contribute to the increased iron and steel production. -0-
