Ri Pyong Chol, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, gave a statement to media on the 26th.
The statement said.
The recent test launch of the newly-developed tactical guided missile entirely belongs to the legitimate right to self-defense of a sovereign state as it is a process to implement the goals of defense science presented by our Party and government for strengthening the state defense capability.
Under the present condition that south Korea and the United States pose a lasting military threat to the Korean peninsula staging dangerous war exercises and shipping latest hardware, we have no other choice but to foster strong physical strength to reliably defend the security of our state.
We express deep concern over the fact that the US chief executive clearly revealed the habitual hostility against the DPRK, slandering the normal test of weapons belonging to the right to defense of our state as a violation of the UN resolution.
What he said is an open infringement and provocation to the self-defensive right of our state.
It is a gangster-like logic that the United States can ship the nuclear assets any time to the Korean peninsula and launch inter-continental ballistic missile, but the DPRK, one of the warring sides, is not allowed to test tactical weapon.
We clearly remember that the new US administration released remarks in every opportunity detrimental to the dignity and sovereignty of our state, slandering us as the gravest threat to its security.
The bellicose attitude of the new US administration teaches us where to go once again and convinces us of the correctness of what we should do.
It is by no means for drawing attention of others or influencing their policy that we develop weapons.
If the war exercises staged before the very eyes of the warring side across the ocean are for defense, we must also have the legitimate self-defensive right to overpower the US military threat within the US mainland.
I think the new US administration precisely took the wrong step from the beginning.
If the United States releases unreasonable remarks, it might face undesirable happenings.
We know what to do too well.
We will continue to foster the most thoroughgoing and overwhelming military muscle.
