The national sketch and calligraphy festival opened on April 8 at the Okryu Exhibition Hall in Pyongyang to mark the Day of the Sun.
An artwork showing President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, who are watching the calligraphic skill of a schoolgirl, is hung at the venue.
On display at the venue are sketches and calligraphic works on diverse themes including those reflecting the immortal exploits of the President who dedicated his whole life to the prosperity of the country and the wellbeing of the people, showing the spirit of the Korean people who have turned out in the struggle to implement the decisions of the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Second Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK and depicting the young people who are volunteering to work at difficult and labour-consuming sectors.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sung Jong Gyu, minister of Culture, Pak Chol Min, chairman of the youth league central committee, Pak In Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, officials concerned, artists and other working people in the city.
