Officials and people across the country are improving rivers to prevent flood damage.
Mangyongdae and Ryokpho Districts and Kangdong County in Pyongyang City have taken the lead in the river improvement project such as river-bed dredging.
Phihyon and Nyongbyon Counties in North Phyongan Province have improved a number of rivers and streams with success. Songchon and Phyongwon Counties in South Phyongan Province have improved the upper reaches of the Piryu River and the Pothong River respectively, making it possible to ensure smooth water flowing in those sections and protect arable lands of different farms.
Other provinces, cities, counties and districts are concentrating efforts on improving rivers.
