Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK's history of 70-odd years, the 1980s is recorded as a period of Pyongyang prosperity.

In the period, edifices representing the times and history sprang up like mushrooms after rain and the speed of the 80s was created in the capital city construction.

The credit for such miracles performed in the period of Pyongyang prosperity, praised by President Kim Il Sung , goes to the wise guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted his much effort to turning the capital city of Pyongyang into a world-level city.

Assigned to a task for undertaking the construction of Pyongyang City by the President in March Juche 64 (1975), the Chairman personally guided the grand construction campaign for sprucing up Pyongyang.

He opened up a prelude to the period of Pyongyang prosperity with the construction of Mansudae Art Theatre and Rakwon Street. And he came to Changgwang Street under construction several times to guide its construction in detail so as to make the construction of this street a starting point for bringing about fresh changes in the country's construction field in the 1980s. Under his wise guidance, the first-phase project for the construction of Changgwang Street was successfully completed in ten months.

He also directed a large-scale construction campaign for building streets of modern houses in succession.

Thus, Munsu Street as big as a town appeared on the Munsu plain near the bank of the Taedong River and the construction of Taehak (university) Street, An Sang Thaek Street and the second-phase projects of Changgwang Street and Chollima Street came to successful conclusion. And the residential districts in main, eastern and western parts of Pyongyang were arranged modernly while such high buildings as 20-, 30- and 40-storied buildings rose up in different parts of the city.

In harmony with modern streets, such monumental edifices were erected as the Changgwang Health Complex, the Ice Rink Chongryu Restaurant, Pyongyang Koryo Hotel and the Ponghwa Art Theatre. And new lines of Pyongyang Metro were extended and funfairs and parks were built in scenic spots.

The large-scale capital city construction reached the climax with the construction of Kwangbok Street amid the vigorous 80s' speed movement.

After all, more than 100 edifices were built in a matter of 10 years. They were a fruition of the Juche-oriented idea on architecture and guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il , the master of creation.

Now in Pyongyang, the construction of 50 000 flats, an embodiment of the Workers' Party of Korea's grand plan for architectural development and architectural idea based on the people-first principle, is progressing apace under the guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un . -0-
