Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- Among the fine art pieces intensively showing the brilliant and time-honored culture and tradition of the Korean nation is "Sokdamgugok" drawn by Choe Buk, a painter active in the 18th century.
The picture shows Sokdamgugok in Pyoksong County, South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK. Sokdamgugok in Korean means stone ponds and nine valleys.
From olden times, it has been loved by the Korean people for its beautiful scenes in four seasons such as valleys with running crystal-like water, evergreen pine forest, flowers in spring, thick foliage in summer, maples in autumn and snow scene in winter, according to Kim Sun Myong, a lecturer of the Korean Art Gallery.
Depicted in the picture are beautiful scenes of each valley and poems written by Ri I, a famous philosopher in the 16th century, to sing of the landscape.
Among the nine valleys, the scene of the fifth valley called Unbyong is the best. Here is Sohyon School, a historical relic dating back to the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910).
Today, citizens spend a pleasant time at the holiday camp built in this area. -0-
