Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- A work for widely spreading turf of good species and other land-creeping plants has been vigorously conducted in the DPRK.
The Pyongyang Turf Institute under the Horticultural Management Bureau plays a leading role in this work.
The institute, situated on the outskirts of the capital city, has research rooms, labs, rooms for analysis, outdoor experimental plots and a greenhouse equipped with the latest facilities.
It was built in three months on the initiative of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .
He visited the newly-built institute in May Juche 102 (2013) and saw different varieties of turfs under experimental cultivation. Saying that turf plays an important role in provision of tidy and hygienically clean living conditions and land conservancy, he indicated the tasks and ways for research into turfs.
Amid the growing nationwide interest in the creation and cultivation of lawns, the institute has bred new species of turfs long in green period, strong in resistance to cold and good for ornamental value to be registered in the list of national variety and established their cultivation methods.
It has also turned wild turfs adapted to the climatic and soil conditions of the country into cultivation turf varieties and spread over the country the improved excellent varieties of turfs from other countries.
Recently, the institute developed green nutritive liquid to be introduced into the creation of lawns.
It is now concentrating efforts on the development of ever-green Zoysia tenuifolia. -0-
