Schoolchildren’s letters encourage builders

The construction of 10 000 flats in Pyongyang progresses at a fast pace.

The appearance of schools, which are being built characteristically along with the fast pace of dwelling construction, gives pleasure to schoolchildren.

So many schoolchildren write encouraging letters to builders.

Among them are children of Sadong Primary School in Sadong District, Pyongyang.

Jong Yong Gyong, pupil of 5-4 class, said in a letter that she was determined to study hard as she saw builders work day and night to build an excellent school. She added that she would show builders her notebook with full marks on the inaugural day of the school.

Kang Hyon Ung of the same class wrote in his letter that his family members would receive a new house free of charge when a new street is built. He hoped that the day of moving into a new home and studying in a new school would come early and wished them good health.

Ri Phyong Yong, pupil in 1-1 class, wrote that he recently received a new uniform, shoes, various school things and Sonamu(pine)-brand satchel the government gave gratis to new pupils throughout the country and sent a picture showing himself attending the new school.

“When they come to the school every morning, it has become a routine for pupils to talk about the construction site like greetings and they look out of the windows to count the number of floors of buildings standing on tiptoe. As the stirring atmosphere of the construction site has been transferred to the school, unbelievable results that have never been seen before are achieved in the study of pupils. They write letters by reflecting their mind, and the builders, who receive their letters, send reply letters saying that they gave them great encouragement. This is a scene peculiar to our school,” said Kil Yong Ok, headmistress of Sadong Primary School in Sadong District.
