Pyongyang, July 26 (KCNA) -- Among the cultural heritages created and developed by the Korean nation is puppet show favored by pupils and other children.

According to old documents like "Jibongryusol", puppet show of Koguryo Kingdom (B.C. 277-A.D. 668) was widely performed among the people and known in neighboring countries.

Typical of the puppet shows conveyed until now are "Puppet Play" satirizing the inside life of corrupt aristocrats and monks and "Nape" performed by a non-governmental artistes' group in the close of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910).

The puppet shows, which were at crisis of extinction due to the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea, have been developed under new thematic contents in keeping with the demand of the times after Korea's liberation (August 15, 1945).

Under the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung , the Puppet Company was founded in August Juche 50 (1961) and many puppet shows of various themes depicting fairy tales and fables had been since created and performed.

Today puppet shows contribute to the intellectual development and cultural and emotional education of kindergarteners and schoolchildren. -0-
