West Coast Exchange, North Korea Watcher Conference, Sept. 2026

Pyongyang, July 27 (KCNA) -- At the foot of scenic Mt Sokbak in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, there is the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery.

Buried there are remains of the heroes who performed brilliant feats in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953).

The cemetery consists of a monument to the teachings given by President Kim Il Sung, the gatepost, the Memorial Tower for the Fallen Soldiers of the Korean People's Army, the wreath-laying stand "Soul of Heroes", groups of sculptures, a monument to the poem dedicated to the fallen fighters, graves of martyrs, etc.

The big granite gatepost depicting the fluttering flags of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the DPRK impresses on the mind of the rising generation that all the war martyrs are leading an everlasting life under the care of the WPK and the motherland.

Looking at the letters "Don't give up even an inch of land to the enemy!" and "For the Country!" engraved on groups of sculptures, the young people do not take a step with ease.

Jong Chang Hyok, a student of Kim Chaek University of Technology, said that he keenly felt the value of true life before the gravestones of martyrs who dedicated their precious lives to the defence of the country.

The cemetery was built on the initiative of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

He indicated in detail the orientation and ways for its construction, saying that the gatepost should be represented in a dignified way and groups of sculptures showing the heroic soldiers at the wartime should be erected.

Visiting the cemetery nearing completion, he said that the WPK is the owner of the graves of well-known and unknown martyrs of the People's Army who fell in the Fatherland Liberation War.

He attended the inaugural ceremony of the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery to cut the ribbon on July 25, Juche 102 (2013).

The precious lives of the heroic soldiers in the 1950s are now on the highest peak of glory.
