Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Indoor Stadium in the DPRK is a multi-purpose and multi-functional structure equipped with modern sports facilities.
The stadium, built in April Juche 62 (1973), has a stand capable of seating more than 12 000 persons, courts and training spaces for basketball, volleyball, table-tennis and other sports games and service facilities. It also has necessary conditions for hosting a mass meeting.
National and international sports games, national meetings, mass gymnastics and other events have been splendidly held at this stadium over the past scores of years.
The Pyongyang Indoor Stadium with a peculiar architectural style was built under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in the 1970s.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un indicated the orientation and ways for wonderfully transforming the stadium in conformity with the requirements of the times. In September 2013, he went round different parts of the reconstructed stadium for hours and gave precious teachings on its management and operation.
Today, the stadium has turned into a reliable sports and cultural establishment conducive to the country's sports development and the cultural and emotional life and physical training of working people and school youth and children.
In its surroundings, there are the People's Palace of Culture, the Changgwang Health Complex, the Ice Rink, the Chongryu Restaurant and Changgwang and Chollima streets, monumental edifices representing the 1970s and the 1980s. -0-
