Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Apiculture is one of the DPRK's national intangible cultural heritages with a long history.
The custom of apiculture came into being in the period of Ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C. - 108 B.C.) and developed in the period of the Three Kingdoms (early 3rd century B.C. - middle 7th century A.D.).
The period from May to the latter part of August is bee-keeping season in Korea.
Basing themselves on the deep understanding of bee's habit, Korean ancestors selected a site for apiculture and made beehive, protective device, honey processing tool, etc.
Honey is harvested twice a year, in summer and autumn.
This work custom has been handed down until now.
Families and apiaries of cooperative farms and enterprises in the DPRK have preserved experience and manners gained in apiculture by predecessors and introduced the latest scientific and technological methods into the bee-keeping, production of honey, etc.
This apiculture custom was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage in October Juche 106 (2017). -0-
