Pyongyang, October 21 (KCNA) -- The agriculture, the light industry and the fishing sector are taking measures for stabilizing and improving the people's living, true to the administrative policy of the DPRK government.

The Ministry of Agriculture is taking measures for growing and introducing varieties which not only stand disastrous abnormal weather but also grow well and are high-yielding, for producing seeds based on science and technology and for supplying them to meet the demand.

The ministry took the bold step of changing the crop distribution and expanding the area for early-maturing varieties. And it is drawing up long-term plans for the agricultural development on the principle of ensuring profitability in double-cropping and strengthening the state control and sci-tech guidance over grain production.

The work for strengthening the water control system to prevent damage by drought and high temperature is pushing forward. And discussed were the ways of ensuring the promptness, scientific accuracy and correctness of the weather forecast.

The stockbreeding sector is waging a rabbit-raising campaign as a mass movement and pushing ahead with the work for lowering feed unit and improving the veterinary and anti-epizootic work.

The Party's childcare policy is being actively carried out, including the increase in the number of goats and cows nationwide and in the amount of milk production, the development of the milk-processing technology and the thorough ensuring of the quality of the goods.

The work for putting the production of fruit and vegetables on an intensive basis, building many large vegetable greenhouse farms and increasing the production of industrial crops and improving their quality is also conducted scrupulously.

The Ministry of Light Industry is pressing ahead with the work to supply raw and other materials needed for the production of consumer goods, and to ensure the full-capacity operation of light industry factories.

The light industry factories across the country are carrying out the production and management with the main emphasis put on improving the quality of consumer goods, increasing the varieties and lowering costs.

Substantial ways of carrying out the technical updating of the local light industry factories in a short span of time and of increasing the production of necessities with the locally available raw materials were found and are being applied.

In the fishing sector, opinions were advanced and are being realized to step up the modernization of, repair to and maintenance of fishing boats and implements, catch more fishes through an intensive fishing campaign and improve the people's diet by making various processed fish.

Proposals for the protection and care of marine resources in a planned way and for increasing the production of marine products by breeding fish on a large scale have been set out. -0-
