Pyongyang, October 23 (KCNA) -- The agricultural sector has made achievements in the production of industrial crops with persistent push given to it, regarding it as an important issue for implementing the Party's policy.
The Ministry of Agriculture has improved the level of the specialization and positively introduced advanced farming methods, whose advantages have been proven, as part of its substantial sci-tech guidance.
The production of peppermint, peanuts and hops has increased much more than last year's.
For peppermint, farms chose the right soil and right seeds meeting the specific soil features and fertilized and tended them well, thereby reaping much more harvest than planned.
Peanut production has also shown a high yield thanks to a zeal for yielding a rich crop based on a scientific farming method.
Officials and agricultural workers of hop production units in Ryanggang Province expanded the area for growing high-yielding hop variety, thereby over-fulfilling the production plan.
Achievements have also been made in the production of oil-bearing crops.
Several counties including Hochon County increased the area for oil-bearing crops more than last year and supplied local industrial factories with lots of sunflower, perilla and sesame seeds as raw materials. -0-
