Pyongyang, October 31 (KCNA) -- Im Sa Jun was a ceramist of the Mansudae Art Studio in the DPRK. For his distinguished service, he won Kim Il Sung Prize and the title of People's Artist.
In this regard, his son Merited Artist Im Kyong Ik, section chief of the Mansudae Art Studio, told KCNA:
My father began to engage himself in ceramics at the age of 14. After President Kim Il Sung liberated Korea from Japan's colonial rule, he could display his talents to the full.
Chairman Kim Jong Il took a step to organize a porcelain creative group at the Mansudae Art Studio with my father and other ace ceramists of the country.
My father made strenuous efforts to revive Koryo celadon which was left only on history books. He found out the main raw materials and glazes for celadon through hundreds of experiments and newly completed its composition rate, molding and baking method. As a result, he succeeded in making a celadon more elegant and fashionable in color, shape, pattern and intensity while retaining the features of Koryo celadon.
Following Im Sa Jun, his sons are devoting their wisdom and efforts to the creation of ceramic workmanship. -0-
