Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The 9th Congress of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea (UAWK) was held here on Thursday and Friday.

The congress comprehensively analyzed and reviewed in depth the work of the union during the period under review and discussed and decided the tasks and ways for the union to fully demonstrate its might as a mass-based political organization in thoroughly implementing the decisions made at the historic 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea and the Party's new programme for rural construction.

Attending the congress were delegates elected by the union organizations at all levels.

Present there as observers were officials of the Party, administrative and armed forces organs.

The platform was taken by Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Ri Tu Song, department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, executive members of the Central Committee of the UAWK, chairpersons of the provincial union committees, exemplary officials of the union organizations, functionaries of union primary organizations and officials of the relevant field.

The congress approved the following agenda items:

1. Review of the work of the Central Committee of the UAWK

2. Review of the work of the Central Inspection Commission of the UAWK

3. On revising the rules of the UAWK

4. Election of the central leadership organ of the UAWK

At the congress, Ri Il Hwan read out "Let the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea Become the Vanguard in the Struggle for Achieving Our Style of Socialist Rural Development", the important letter sent by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, to the participants in the 9th UAWK Congress.

Kim Jong Un in his letter referred to the important significance of the 9th UAWK Congress, warmly congratulated the participants on behalf of the Central Committee of the Party and warmly encouraged all the agricultural workers and members of the union across the country who turned out in this year's farming with high resolution and determination.

Kim Jong Un highly praised the agricultural workers as faithful and patriotic workers who have firmly defended the revolutionary position in the countryside and safeguarded the Party and revolution with grain production while always sharing their intention and destiny with the Party and socialism.

Saying that the goal of socialist rural construction reflects the intention of the Party to make the agricultural workers enter the communist society before others by training them to be rural revolutionaries in a new era and turning all the local areas across the country into a paradise to be envied by the world, he set forth the tasks and ways for the union to implement the programme for the socialist rural construction.

Only when all the union organizations across the country share thought with the Party and breathe the same air with it, proud and ground-breaking achievements will be made, he said, expressing great expectation that all the organizations and members of the union would creditably fulfill their honorable mission and duty before the times and revolution and thus positively contribute to ushering in a new great era of socialist rural development.

Han Jong Hyok, chairman of the UAWK Central Committee, made a report on the first agenda item.

The reporter noted that Kim Jong Un led the union to fulfill its responsibility and duty in the campaign for implementing the ideas of the Party and upholding its policies with his outstanding guidance and great loving care and trust during the period under review.

He referred to the fact that during the period under review members of the union fully displayed the fighting spirit of devotedly defending the leader and implementing the Party's policies unto death as the UAWK Central Committee conducted the work for holding President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in high esteem forever and remaining faithful to the idea and leadership of Kim Jong Un , keeping up it as its main task.

He said that the union organizations launched on an extensive scale the campaigns in which one overtakes and learns from others and swaps experiences with each other and, as a result, the peak-year level of grain production was surpassed despite the bad weather conditions, a lot of units and farmers reaped a good harvest, units which won the Lathe No. 26 Model Machine Prize in the flames of the mass movement were increased and new multi-purpose farming machines and tools of Korean style were developed and introduced to propel the rural technical revolution.

He called upon the union to usher in a new great era of socialist rural development by dynamically conducting three revolutions-ideological, technological and cultural- under the slogan "For a Fresh Victory in Socialist Rural Construction!" set forth at the 4th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Party Central Committee.

He cited facts to analyze and review the mistakes revealed in the period under review and their causes.

He stressed the need for the union to fully discharge its mission and role in remaining faithful to the intention of the Party which set it as a major urgent task in settling the rural question to steadily increase the country's agricultural production.

He called on the UAWK committees in Pyongyang and provinces, cities and counties to vigorously conduct mass movements and socialist emulations for creating and generalizing new models and exemplary units in the agricultural field to meet the need of the developing times.

He ardently appealed to all to work hard for the new victory of the socialist cause, stressing that only victory and glory will be in store for the agricultural workers and members of the union whatever hardships as long as there is Kim Jong Un .

Speeches on the first agenda item were made at the congress.

The congress heard a report on the second agenda item "Review of the work of the Central Inspection Commission of the UAWK" which was followed by speeches. A resolution was adopted with unanimous approval.

Then the congress discussed the third agenda item "On revising the rules of the UAWK".

There was a report on the revised rules of the UAWK that had been modified and supplemented, and a resolution was adopted with the unanimous approval of the delegates.

The congress discussed the fourth agenda item "Election of the central leadership organ of the UAWK".

It elected the Central Committee of the UAWK.

All the nominees were elected members and alternate members of the Central Committee of the UAWK with the unanimous approval of the delegates.

Then there was the first plenary meeting of the 9th Central Committee of the UAWK.

The Executive Committee of the UAWK Central Committee was elected.

Han Jong Hyok was elected chairman of the Central Committee of the UAWK and Yun Chol, Ri Yong Chol and Kil Sang Bong were elected vice-chairmen.

The Organizing Committee of the Central Committee of the UAWK was formed.

The chairman, vice-chairmen and members of the Central Inspection Commission of the UAWK were elected.

Department directors of the Central Committee of the UAWK and the editor-in-chief of the organ of the Central Committee of the UAWK were appointed.

The congress elected the committee for drafting the resolution of the congress with newly-elected members of the 9th central leadership organ of the UAWK, and the committee comprehensively examined the draft resolution on the first agenda item.

A resolution on the first agenda item which had been supplemented with the creative and constructive opinions of the delegates was adopted with unanimous approval. -0-
