Pyongyang, February 12 (KCNA) -- A joint national meeting of the Korean Children's Union (KCU) organizations was held in Pyongyang on Friday to commemorate the 80th birth anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il .
It was attended by students of Mangyongdae Revolutionary School and Kang Pan Sok Revolutionary School, schoolchildren in Pyongyang and new members of the KCU.
Invited to the event were Ri Il Hwan, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Hwan, chief secretary of the Pyongyang City Committee of the WPK, Ri Tu Song, department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, officials of the youth league and merited persons of the city.
Mun Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, made a report.
He referred to the undying exploits Chairman Kim Jong Il performed by bringing up the rising generations to be pillars of future Korea with his warm love.
He recalled that the Chairman visited many schools and school children's palaces to take warm care of the school children so that they could grow up to be cheerful and stalwart ones, knowledgeable, morally impeccable and physically fit.
Thanks to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who bestows great love and benevolence on the KCU members, regarding them as treasure of the country, a rosier future is in store for the rising generations, the reporter stressed.
He called on all KCU members to cherish the great love and trust of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and prepare themselves to be genuine sons and daughters of the socialist country and young revolutionaries, true to the pledge they made before the KCU flag.
Then, an admission ceremony for new KCU members began.
Led by Secretary Ri Il Hwan, new KCU members were sworn in.
Officials and merited persons put red ties around their necks and pinned KCU badges on their uniforms.
Congratulatory speeches were made by Pak In Ho, a lecturer of the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, Choe Yong Rim, a section chief of Kim Il Sung University, and Kim Chun Hui, secretary general of the Weightlifting Association. -0-
