Futile Sanctions Against Russia

Date: 06/05/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

As has been known, the U.S. and the West, since the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, have taken more than 2,800 sanction measures to isolate and stifle Russia, both politically and economically. Just to name a few, they have included President Putin and other high officials in the sanction list and removed Russia from the membership of Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication(SWIFT).

However, Russia is now in the limelight of the international society with news being reported that it registered a black figure of $58 billion in the first quarter alone even in the face of anti-Russia sanctions by the U.S. and the West.

In recent video-conference devoted to economic affairs, President Putin said that the Western countries calculated that their sanctions could create dislocation of economic and financial market of Russia as well as the shortage of commodities in shops. But their strategy of sanction “blitz” against Russia, he said, could not have escaped a failure.

Experts on international affairs contend that the U.S. and the West have pursued the goal of totally stifling the Russian economy, creating social disorder, and division of privileged circle, but it brought just the opposite result of cementing further the internal unity of Russia.

Russian economic analysts are unanimously commenting that their government has recently demonstrated on the high level the stability of socio-economic system even in the face of extreme conditions of sanctions. They also make a comment that their government has taken a resolute step to make the European countries pay the fee of natural gas imported from Russia in ruble, thus bringing about the rapid increase of value of ruble with the economic situation of the Western countries which are dependent on the supply of Russian gas, on the contrary, getting worse day by day.

A few days ago, the Vice-Chairman of Security Council of the Russian Federation has quoted the latest data of the International Monetary Fund to assert that Europe cannot last more than six months or even a few weeks without the natural gas from Russia.

It is not without reason that European countries are recently crying out in fear that the suspension of import of gas from Russia can lead to a serious economic crisis where millions of people lose their jobs and numerous factories are closed.

The reality clearly shows that the stick of sanctions wielded by the U.S. and the West against Russia rather turns out to be a boomerang which flies back to their throat muscles.
