Zhao Lijian, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, said in a press conference on May 10 that any outside forces have no right to interfere in China’s Hong Kong issue as it is included in the internal affairs of China whether it enforces any electoral system or it seeks a way for democratic development.
His recent remarks came after foreign ministers of G7 and the EU’s high-ranking representative in charge of diplomacy and security policies viciously slandered the election of administrative governor for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in collusion with each other.
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman called on the Western countries and organization to respect China’s sovereignty, observe international law and main principle of international relations and discontinue at once the interference in the internal affairs of the country and the Hong Kong issue.
The Chinese government’s determination is steadfast to correctly implement “one country, two systems” and develop good democracy that confirms to the actual situation of Hong Kong, he added.
Any outside forces’ pressure and destruction moves will end fruitlessly, he said, stressing that Hong Kong will open up an excellent and new political situation and write a new chapter toward rejuvenation.
