Mastermind behind scheme to foment discord and undermine cooperation in the region

Recently, the US-ASEAN special summit was held in the US.

As had been expected, the US has again loudly aired the “free and open Indo-Pacific”, “maintenance of rules and norms” and the importance of creating peaceful environment.

According to the US assertion, the freedom in the Indo-Pacific region is being restricted, “rules” and “norms” are being violated, and peace and stability are being undermined.

Then, who is the real mastermind that hampers the common development and causes unstable situation in the Asia-Pacific region?

Chinese media are giving an answer to this question.

Global Times laid bare the ulterior intention of the Biden administration to keep on implementing the Indo-Pacific strategy and drive the ASEAN countries into the competition with China, and warned that the US bid to create an Indo-Pacific version of NATO as well as camp confrontation would not be achieved in Asia.

The Overseas Network also carried a commentary which points out that the countries in the region are not the geopolitical chessmen of the US and that the US would fail in its attempt to win over the ASEAN countries by honeyed words.

Recently, Chinese media outlets criticized the US for sparing no efforts to foment discord and hinder cooperation between the ASEAN countries and China, stressing that the Biden administration would better do more work necessary for cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

The international community also voices growing skepticism over the “rules” and “norms” which are unilaterally advocated by the US for achieving its own goals.

Some time ago, the Russian foreign minister also ridiculed the US and the West’s advocacy for “rules-based world order”, saying that nobody has either seen or drawn up this kind of “rules”.

In order to maintain its hegemonic position, the US attempts to undermine the international and regional cooperation in pursuit of camp confrontation in every part of world, but it will be unable evade the rejection of the international society.
